Portugal, the host nation, lives to fight another day when they beat their Spanish neighbour 1-0, thanks to a superb second half goal by Nuno Gomes. It was a must-win game for Portugal and it promised to be a very open match with both sides going for the win.
Spain again failed to live up to expectations and the defeat, especially bitter by neighbours Portugal would most probably cost the coach and even some players their place in the national team.
Greece will join Portugal in the quarter finals although they lost 2-1 to Russia. A better goal scoring record meant that they pip Spain to the quarter finals.
A good result on my side as I managed to get 2 out of 3 bets correct. Firstly, I bet 3 goals on the Russia Greece game. Next, I bet on Spain/Portugal and Draw/Portugal and won the latter one for a winning of $112. Thanks to my lucky StaR, it was a very good day at the betting pool.
